SAN CLEMENTE – A 13-year-old girl remained in critical condition Tuesday, a day after being hit by a car while riding a skateboard.
The girl was taken to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo with a head injury Monday evening, Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi said.
The collision occurred at 6:24 p.m. at Camino Mira Costa and Plaza Estival near Mira Costa Park.
“She was skateboarding with a few of her friends and did not have a helmet on,” Concialdi said. “That’s why we stress everyone wear a helmet. They really do protect you.”
Lt. Jeff Hallock of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department said the girl went into the street for an unknown reason and was struck by a four-door sedan.
