Palermo An Oroville man allegedly evading the Butte County Sheriff’s Office in a stolen car died Monday evening after crashing during the pursuit.

Just before 9 p.m., Jeffrey Stogsdill, 24, was reportedly fleeing in a 1993 Honda Accord when he lost control of the vehicle and went off of the road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Stogsdill was southbound on Lone Tree Road, south of Cox Lane, at an unknown high rate of speed when he allowed the car to run off of the right side of the road, according to authorities. The car then crashed into a fence, continued onto an open field and overturned.

According to CHP, the impact of the solo-vehicle crash caused Stogsdill, who was not wearing a seat belt, to be thrown from the car.
