GRIDLEY — A 48-year-old man who was a correctional deputy with the Butte County Sheriff's Office was confirmed to be the victim of a fatal vehicle crash early this morning near Biggs.
California Highway Patrol released the man's age and gender in a news release.
Butte County Undersheriff Kory Honea said the man worked in the jail and had been with the Sheriff's Office for six years.
He was on his way to work at the time of the accident, Honea said in a phone call.
Officials are not releasing the name pending notification of next of kin.
CHP stated in a press release that the man was traveling east on Rio Benito Road at around 6 a.m. and failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection with Highway 99.
