Young San Leandro Boy, Orion Benson, Hit by SUV

Ten-year-old Orion Benson was riding his bike to school for the first time in September of 2015. He wore his helmet and when he came to the crosswalk he got off his bike to walk it across when his turn came. Witnesses say a male in an SUV driving 25 to 30 MPH hit Benson. He was unresponsive at first but soon awoke and began to scream when police arrived. He was transported to the hospital where his injuries were found to be several broken bones, and multiple fractures in his leg and ribs, a broken arm, a broken collar bone and minor head trauma. First responders say his helmet protected him against serious head injury.
