Wrong-Way Driver Causes Shutdown on I5 for Hours — Sep 9, 2017

A pick-up truck driver died early Saturday after driving the wrong way along I5. He crashed into a tractor trailer. Interstate 5 southbound reopened at around 2 P.M., over eight hours after the crash which happened on southbound lanes between Richards Boulevard and J Street. Drivers were detoured onto Richards Boulevard. When firefighters arrived on the scene the pickup had burst into a ball of flames. The big rig driver said he saw the headlights approaching and swerved to avoid the oncoming pick-up but it hit him anyway. He was able to get out of his cab and that is when he witnessed the truck burst into flames. It is still unknown if the driver was male or female. No name had yet been released.
