Victim in Deadly Highway 101 Crash Identified — Nov 14, 2016

The county coroner office has identified the victim of the deadly Highway 101 crash in San Mateo last weekend. The man, a Peninsula resident, crashed his BMW into a tree on the side of Highway 101. The victim has been identified as San Mateo resident Jairo Lombera, 22. He died at the scene at 2:10 a.m. close to the Third Avenue off-ramp from northbound Highway 101.  Lombera had been driving north on US-101 when he attempted to make a turn onto the Eastbound 3rd Avenue exit. He lost control, veering to the left, where he went off the road and hit a tree head-on.   The two passengers, a 21-year-old and 22-year-old, suffered minor injuries. A third, a 21-year-old, suffered major injuries, per the California Highway Patrol. All four people are residents of San Mateo and all had been drinking alcohol at the time of the crash.
