Single-vehicle rollover wreck on Highway 29 in Lakeport Kills One and Injures Another

Maki Mitsuya, 35 was killed as she rode as a passenger in a 1996 Honda Accord driven by Ione Gruia, 31 of San Francisco. Lake County police say Gruia was travelling south on Highway 29 when the car drifted into the median just south of the Hill Road undercrossing. He overcorrected in the dirt, losing control and skidding across the southbound lanes. He struck a curb and an embankment, according to the California Highway Patrol. The car rolled several times after impact and then skidded down an embankment. It landed upside-down on the road. Alcohol was not a factor and both were wearing their seatbelts.
