San Mateo Crash Kills Three Young Men — Nov 11, 2017

Three young men died on Halloween night when the Hyundai they were in went off Highway 35 south of Bear Gulch Road and collided with a tree, according to the California Highway Patrol. The men have been identified by the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office as Matthew Edward Eric Cruz, 18, of Redwood City; Andrew Rogelio Gonzales, 18, of Menlo Park; and Ricardo Seneca Torres, 19, of Redwood City. At approximately 7:50 a.m. Wednesday, California Highway Patrol received a report from the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office asking officers to respond to a traffic collision, which occurred sometime overnight. A 2010 Hyundai occupied by Cruz, Gonzalez and Torres traveling south on Skyline Boulevard at an undetermined rate of speed left the west side of the roadway for unknown reasons and collided with a tree. It came to rest on its wheels approximately 50-feet down the embankment. Torres was immediately identified as the driver. All the occupants of the Hyundai were wearing their seatbelts, according to CHP Officer Montiel.
