A female driver was killed in the head-on crash of two vehicles in Pollock Pines shortly after noon Saturday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The name of the deceased has not been released by CHP, which continues to investigate the crash.
CHP said two vehicles heading in opposite directions collided on Mormon Emigrant Trail, just south of Sly Park Road.
One driver, who was the sole occupant of a Toyota Avalon sedan, was killed in the crash. Investigators believe that vehicle crossed over double yellow lines just before impact.
CHP said the driver of the second vehicle, a Jeep Liberty sport-utility vehicle, sustained major injuries, and two passengers in that vehicle sustained moderate injuries.
Traffic was diverted at the scene, and CHP announced that the roadway was cleared at 3:14 p.m.
