PARAMOUNT - A passenger was killed and a driver injured in a single-car crash in Paramount, sheriff's officials said today.

The man who was driving lost control of a compact sedan and smashed into a tree in the center divider in the 14600 block of Downey Avenue at about 10 p.m. on Monday, sheriff's Sgt. Michael Melikidse of the Lakewood Station said.

Rafael Dominguez, 38, died at the scene, Assistant Chief Ed Winter of the coroner's office said.

The driver was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. His name was not released. Sheriff's deputies were investigating whether alcohol was a factor in the crash, Melikidse said.
