Mountain View Man Killed by Flying Debris on Highway 101, September 16, 2016

Eighty-two-year-old Mountain View resident, Louis Schaefer was killed Friday September 16th when a piece of flying debris struck him. The large steel nut that hit him crashed through the windshield of his car and hit him in the neck, killing him instantly as he drove along Highway 101 in Menlo Park. He came to rest in his vehicle in the center divider. According to the California Highway Patrol, the nut could possibly have fallen from one of their maintenance trucks travelling the between job sites.
