Merced Police Collide With Hilmar Resident — Nov 1, 2016

Officers involved in a Merced suspect pursuit collided with a local resident at approximately 8:30 p.m. near 4th Street and Acacia Street. The Police were chasing a motorcycle suspect who was quickly approaching the intersection when he flitted through stopped traffic. The police officer attempted to pass the same traffic on the left when he realized an F150 pick-up crossing the intersection. There was not enough time to avoid hitting the truck. The driver was Tony Vieira, 43, of Hilmar, and his 12-year-old passenger. They had minor injuries but they preferred to seek help on their own. The motorcycle suspect fled the area and evaded arrest.
