Merced Motorcyclist Suffers Major Injury — Sep 26, 2017

A 43-year-old motorcyclist suffered major injuries in a south of Merced crash. At approximately 4:12 Monday, a 2009 Yamaha motorcyclist was driving behind a 2006 white Dodge Ram headed north on Highway 59 near Canton Road. Traffic slowed and the driver of the Dodge, Aureliano Barajas-Valencia, 43, braked and deviated to the right side of the road. The motorcycle didn't slow down in time and crashed into the rear of the Dodge. Alcohol and drugs were not a factor in the crash, according to police. Baragas-Valencia claimed he slammed on his breaks and veered to the right so as not to hit the car in front of him. The rider suffered major injuries and was taken to an area hospital for treatment. His name was not immediately available.
