Merced Crash Hospitalizes Denair Man — Jun 22, 2017

A man from Denair in a 2005 Chevy Cruze was driving west on Third Avenue. It was just before 6 p.m. when he approached the intersection at McCullagh Road where 21-year-old Steven Meza of Gustine was approaching the stop sign. The man from Denair had no stop sign and travelled through the intersection. Meza did not see him and accelerated through the stop. He hit the other car and both went through a metal fence and a power pole. The Cruze went on to hit a tree as well. Meza’s 1997 Honda Civic caught fire but he was able to safely escape. Neither drugs nor alcohol are thought to be a factor.
