Merced County Crash Victim Identified — May 31, 2017

A woman from Salinas, 44-years-old, died in a weekend car crash in Merced County. She has been identified as Nidia Torres. The accident occurred on Sandy Mush Road at approximately 6:15 p.m. She was a passenger in a 2004 Ford Expedition and was thrown from the car in the crash. The driver was 19-year-old Daniel Sanchez-Torres. He had two other passengers in this vehicle. The group was on their way to John Latorraca Correctional Facility to visit an inmate. The driver fell asleep. Upon awakening he panicked and set the vehicle to rolling over. The victim had been seated in the back. The driver had only a drivers permit and had not obtained a license. A 6-year-old passenger was transported to a local hospital with abdominal pain.
