Mendocino Coast DUI Crash Injures Nine — Oct 3, 2016

A DUI driver hit a minivan full of passengers head-on Saturday night. The accident occurred at approximately 7:48 p.m. The DUI driver, William Mladenka, 71, drifted across his lane into oncoming traffic on a curve northbound along Highway 1. He drove directly into the path of a 2014 Honda Odyssey driven by Mary Kay Viglione, 66, of Fair Oaks. Mladenka, a Freeborn, Texas native, left her little time to avoid the collision with his 2007 Toyota Tacoma truck. They struck head-on north of Lighthouse Road. All nine passengers were injured. Five ambulances and two helicopters responded to transport the injured to the hospital. Mladenka was the most severely injured. It was later determined his blood alcohol level was .15, twice the legal limit. He had a passenger, Kathleen Mladenka, 68. She also suffered major injuries. The minivan passengers suffered minor injuries.
