I5 Crash Kills Passenger — Sep 5, 2017

A woman from Sacramento, 33-years-old, died when the car she was riding in crashed on I5 early Saturday. It was just south of the Corning Road exit at approximately 8:30 a.m. The driver of the car was Pao Her, 32-years-old, also of Sacramento. He received minor injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment. He had been driving a 2015 Toyota Camry northbound at a clip of approximately 70 mph when he drifted off the road. He sideswiped a tree as he skidded along an embankment and then hit a large tree head-on. The car, tree and surrounding brush erupted into flames. He extricated himself from the car and began to rescue the woman with the help of bystanders but was unable to get to her with the flames surrounding the car. She died at the scene. No name had been released pending notification of family. The accident is still under investigation but drugs and alcohol don’t seem to have played a part.
