Fleeing Suspect Killed in Crash — Oct 19, 2017

According to California Highway Patrol, man died in a single-vehicle crash Thursday on U.S. 395 near Mammoth Lakes. He was fleeing a traffic stop. Officers received a report of a suspected DUI driver travelling south on 395, just south of Lee Vining Thursday at approximately 1:10 p.m. A Mono County police officer witnessed a car lacing in and out of the traffic lanes on Highway 395, slightly north of the State Route 158 south junction. Authorities checked the vehicle through dispatch and found the car had been reported stolen. A California Highway Patrol officer at Mammoth Lakes attempted to stop the car at the SR 158 south junction. It drove away and headed south on 395 at a high rate speed. Approximately three miles north of State Route 203, the suspected vehicle drove off the road and rolled several times. The driver died from his injuries. The accident remains under investigation.
