Five Union City Men Die in Fresno Crash — Sep 12, 2017

A Mercedes Benz and a Peterbilt big rig crashed in Fresno and five men from Union City were killed. One was badly injured. The men were riding in a 2009 Mercedes. They were travelling East on West Manning Avenue as they approached the Highway 33 intersection. The accident occurred at approximately 9 a.m. on September 5th when the Mercedes ran a stop sign and smashed into the side of the truck. The impact caused the truck to overturn. Rescuers were able to extricate two of the men from the Mercedes before flames erupted. The five men were pronounced dead on the scene. It was unclear who was driving. The five men have been identified as Vinod Dhammy, 66, Kuldip Kumar, 64, Surinder Kumar, 63, Narinder Kumar, 55, and Deepak Kumar, 49. Layne Fletcher, 58-years-old, was the driver of the truck. He is a resident of Dinuba. He was rushed to the hospital but later died of his injuries
