Eleven-Year-Old Boy Killed in Placerville Crash — Dec 29, 2016

A car crash in Placerville killed an 11-year-old boy from Galt in the last days of December 2016. It was near Highway 50, just west of Riverton Court, where a 2001 BMW heading west lost control going around a curve. Evidence shows the driver did hit the brakes but went into a locked-wheel skid and crossed the eastbound lane. The BMW left the road and slid down a rock-covered embankment. It flipped several times, ejecting a 13-year-old girl who was not wearing a seatbelt. The car landed on its roof in water, trapping the young boy and driver inside. Bystanders jumped into the water, righted the car and pulled out the driver. A 23-year-old passenger was able to extricate herself. When emergency medical crews arrived, they were able to pull the boy out and begin lifesaving measure but he later died. He is identified as Tonino Trujillo. The driver, a 33-year-old Sacramento resident was hospitalized with major injuries.
