DUI Driver Arrested After Passenger Dies in Clovis Accident — Sep 7, 2017

A DUI driver killed his passenger in Clovis Sunday in a one car crash. Nineteen-year-old James Cabrera, of Fresno, died when Dominick Rocha, 18, also of Fresno, lost control of his 2001 Chevy Malibu while going west on Copper Avenue. He drove off-road just east of Minnewawa Avenue at approximately 9:20 p.m. He hit a number of fence posts and an aluminum gate before smashing into a dirt embankment and flipping over on its side. Rocha got out of the car and was able to remove Cabrera from the passenger seat. He was later pronounced dead at the scene. Police arrived and determined Rocha to have a blood alcohol content of .34. An amount which is four times the legal limit for driving. He also had a backpack containing prescription drugs and marijuana. He was taken to a hospital and then booked into jail.
