Driver Trapped in Flipped Car Off 580in Livermore Starts Brush Fire — Sep 1, 2017

A DUI driver was transported to an area hospital with serious injury after his vehicle left the road on Highway 580 in Livermore. Once leaving the road, the car flipped over and trapped the driver who was initially unconscious. No other cars were involved in the accident that happened at North Flynn Road at approximately 1:25 a.m. The car was found 200 feet down an embankment. A brush fire started near the car. Rescuers located the unconscious man as flames began to surround the car. They cut his seatbelt and extricated him from the car. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire. The driver has been charged with DUI and will be transported to jail upon release from the hospital.
