Davis Man Receives Major Injuries and a DUI Charge After I80 Crash

According to the California Highway Patrol, 44-year-old James Downing, of Davis, collided with an 18-wheeler in his Buick Lucerne receiving deep gashes to his arms and legs and a fractured sternum along with a DUI charge. The accident occurred Thursday, at approximately 12:10 p.m., east of Drum Forebay Road when he attempted to change lanes and rear ended the big truck. He lost control of the car and sped through all lanes of traffic to land in the median. Downing’s passenger, 44-year-old Katherine Downing, also of Davis, received broken ribs, a pelvic fracture and cuts to her head. The big-rig driver was unhurt.
