Crash Kills Two Auburn Women — July 14, 2017

A one-car crash Monday morning killed two women from Auburn in northern California on U.S Route 101 southbound. The accident occurred at approximately 9:45 a.m. at Weott. A 2004 Lincoln with a 21-year-old woman from Auburn at the wheel travelling south ran off the westbound roadside. She travelled down an embankment next to the Interstate ramp and collided with a redwood tree. She had a passenger, a 52-year-old woman also from Auburn. The driver was transported to an area hospital where she later died. Her passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. There were three other females in the car, two girls from Auburn, 14 and 17, and 25-year-old Angel Carrera from Puebla, Mexico. All three were transported to an area hospital with major injury. The two teen girls and the front passenger were not in their seatbelt. Drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor. Southbound Route 101 off ramp to Weott was shut down as well as the southbound slow lanes until the investigation concluded.
