Cloverdale Accident Kills Virgin Islands Man — August 2, 2017

A man visiting from the Virgin Islands, 18-years-old, was killed Tuesday in a roll-over crash in Mendocino County. Three others were in the car, a 2001 Mitsubishi Montero. Dead on the scene was 18-year-old Zion James. He was not wearing a seat belt. Neither was Yirakmeal Henry, 18, also from the Virgin Islands. The SUV they were in crashed five miles north of Cloverdale at around 6 p.m. Shakela Hill, 24, of Ukiah, was driving and lost control for unknown reasons. The SUV overturned and skidded across the highway and stopped on its side on the shoulder of the road. Both 18-year-old were ejected from the SUV. Hill was trapped with major injuries but finally freed by rescuers. One other passenger, Lynesia Richards, also 18, of Ukiah, had major injury but was able to free herself. Henry, Richards and Hill were transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for treatment.
