Ceres Woman Dies in Crash Into Canal — Nov 7, 2017

Ani Shamamian of Ceres called 911 after she crashed her car into an aqueduct on November first. Sadly, responders were not able to get to her fast enough to save her. Authorities are not yet clear on why 54-year-old Shamamian drove off into the aqueduct from 600 feet above on Howard Boulevard. She crashed through a fence over a berm and into the canal. The car was not visible when authorities arrived, but was found 30 feet under the water with a remote-controlled, sonar-equipped boat. The dive team recovered her body at approximately 2 p.m.
