Car Hit on Caltrain Tracks at Churchill Avenue — June 16, 2017

A car carrying a family of 3 from Italy stalled on the Caltrain tracks at Churchill Avenue in Palo Alto. They were able to escape before the train hit the car. Northbound Caltrain No. 151 hit the Toyota Corolla LE at approximately 2 p.m. and was subsequently terminated. Caltrain tweeted that commuters should expect delays. The Toyota was a black sedan with four doors. It was broadsided by the train and pushed roughly 70 feet down the track. It stopped facing Alma street with wheels astraddle. The driver was a 20-year-old woman travelling with her parents. When she attempted a turn, the car stalled and she could not get it to start again. They quickly exited when the train approached. No one was hurt.
