CONCORD -- An 18-year-old Martinez driver was in custody after she apparently ran a red light and struck another vehicle, killing a man in his 50s, police said.

The crash happened around 11:20 a.m. on Concord Boulevard near Ayers Road, police said. The 18-year-old woman was driving a pickup truck toward downtown Concord when she apparently ran a red light and collided with a compact car making a left from Ayers Road to go in the opposite direction, police said.

The driver in the car trying to make the turn was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. His identity was not immediately released.

The driver of the other car was treated and released at a hospital, then taken into custody. Police did not immediately release her identity or any possible charges.
