Truck / 'Big Rig' Accident
Truck, or big rig, accidents can result in some of the most devastating injuries. The sheer size and weight of large trucks, ranging up to 75 ft. in length and 80,000 lbs. in weight, can damage a car and its passengers extensively.
Each year, there are 500,000 accidents and 5,000 deaths associated with truck collisions. Truck accidents, while causing 7% of motor vehicle accidents, result in 12% of motor vehicle deaths. The majority of deaths and injuries occur within the passenger vehicles, while the truck drivers often leave the scene of the accident without suffering any injury.
Some common causes of truck accidents are speeding, failure to yield, tire blow-out, overloaded trucks, and drunk driving, to name a few. 30% of truck-driver fault accidents are due to lack of sleep.
In California, the law imposes a statute of limitations which sets a maximum amount of time that legal proceedings can occur after the date the incident. Each year at our law offices, people call me to ask me for help that have legitimate cases, only to find their statute of limitations has run out. It is one of the most difficult things for me to tell them I can’t help because they waited too long. If you or someone you love have been injured in a truck accident, please contact me at the Law Offices of Moseley Collins. We work with clients throughout California, primarily in the Sacramento area. Call us, we are here to help.
