More Than 20 Injured in Union Square Tour Bus Crash

A double decker tour bus traveling around Union Square suddenly became out of control and hit four to five vehicles and injured more than 20. Six were deemed critical, one a minor. The bus also hit a bicyclist and scaffolding to a nearby construction site. The bicyclist was one of the most seriously injured. What caused the crash is still unclear. Police say the bus began to pick up speed around the 500 block of Post Street and then crashed through the scaffolding and on to vehicles, pedestrians, and the bicyclist. Two people, including the driver, had to be cut from the bus and two pedestrians were trapped beneath it. Two people in related vehicles were also trapped and had to be extricated. Police are still investigating if the cause was due to mechanical error, medical issues or drugs and alcohol.
